The jalapeño is a small chilli pepper which is green in colour with a mild taste. The pepper will turn a deep red once it’s ripe. The green variant of this pepper is most commonly used. The jalapeño is often used in soups, stews and dip sauces. Spiciness: approximately 25.000 to 50.000 Scoville units.


The jalapeño pepper must be shiny and firm when purchased. The pepper may contain some cracks in the skin. Wash the peppers before use and remove the stalk. If the pepper isn’t being cooked in its entirety, half the pepper in length with a knife and scrape out the seeds. Cut the pepper into slices for further use. The jalapeño pepper is often also used for cooking in dishes or filled and grilled.
