Tropical Fruit Company > CARAMBOLA

Carambola is also known under the ‘star fruit’ name. The fruit takes on the shape of a star when it is cut through the centre or cut into slices. The fruit has a green to yellow-ish colour. The skin is smooth and slightly shiny. The flesh is firm and juicy. The carambola has a sour to sweet and sour taste. The fruit is seedless or contains small, edible 12 mm seeds.

The carambola can simply be eaten out of the hand and is sometimes also used for garnishing. The fruit can be eaten with the skin on once it has been washed. A ripe carambola is dark yellow, can have brown edges and has a slightly sweeter taste. Preferably store the fruit out of the fridge at a temperature of 12-15 degrees. A ripe, dark yellow carambola can be stored in the fridge for a few days.
